"The relationships I've made through AWC Austin literally helped put a roof over my head during a time of personal crisis. When I thought about who I could turn to, my AWC friends were the only obvious choice. Networking in AWC Austin can be so much more than simply a means for career advancement." |
Local Chapter HistoryAWC Austin has a rich heritage dating back to its formation in September 1929. The chapter was established by women initiated into the campus chapter at the University of Texas at Austin. The charter from the national organization came in 1930. In those early years, the alumnae gathered at two meetings each month for professional programs and to exchange information. Today, AWC Austin is one of the largest and most diverse professional communications organizations in the city. Our membership includes nearly two hundred women and men from across a broad spectrum of communication specialties including journalism, public relations, marketing, graphic design and corporate communications. In 2000, AWC Austin hosted The Association for Women in Communications National Conference in Austin, and, in 2004, we celebrated our long history with a 75th Anniversary Gala. |
